Wheelchair athletes Kurt Fearnley and Angie Ballard are both aiming for their fifth Paralympic Games, so this duo certainly knows a lot about sustained success over a long period.
The pair recently visited the AIS for training and racing, giving some insights into what makes a champion Paralympic athlete.
“Talent may get you through the first door but if you are hoping to be the best, desire, drive and mental preparation are everything,” Fearnley said.
Ballard is yet to win a gold medal at the Paralympics, but is raring to go for Rio after claiming two gold medals at last year’s Paralympic World Championships in Doha.
“It’s been a huge journey for me to work out how to go from having a little bit of talent to turning out consistently good performances,” Ballard said.
