The Australian Sports Commission extends its sympathy to the family and many friends of legendary sports journalist Alan Trengove, who has passed away aged 87.
Alan’s insightful contribution to sports journalism over more than a half a century has guaranteed him a place as an icon of the profession.
He was awarded a lifetime achievement award for contribution to sports journalism at the Australian Sports Commission Media Awards in 2005.
He worked for a range of media outlets in Australia and, over many decades, travelled the world reporting on the sporting exploits of some of the world’s most famous athletes.
Alan’s long association and passion for tennis culminated in him co-founding Australian Tennis magazine in 1976.
He spent 15 years as a member of the International Tennis Federation's Media Commission and was one of the few sports writers to have media accreditation for both the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.
Alan was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1990 for his contribution to sports media.
