Australian Sports Commission statement

07 May 2017

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) congratulates John Coates on his re-election as President of the Australian Olympic Committee, and all those elected to the AOC Executive. The ASC looks forward to working constructively with the AOC Executive and management team in the best interests of Australian sport.

The ASC also commends all those who put themselves forward as candidates in that process with a view to serving Australian sport.

ASC Chair John Wylie said “It is in the national interest that there be strong and positive working relationships between the ASC and the AOC and all our sector partners, including the Australian Paralympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Australia. The ASC has always been committed to achieving this, and remains so.”

“We note the AOC President’s comments this weekend that he will seek to improve the AOC’s and his personal relationship with the ASC. This is a welcome and very positive development.”

“The ASC board and I also welcome the commitment of the AOC and its stakeholders to cultural change.”

ASC CEO Kate Palmer will meet with AOC CEO Matt Carroll in the near future.

As previously advised, Danielle Roche took a leave of absence from the ASC Board during the AOC Executive elections. Now they are completed, Danielle will resume her role on the ASC Board.
