Sport organisations encouraged take Pride In Sport Index survey

06 March 2017

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) promotes fairness, equity and integrity in sporting behaviour. Sport should be a place where people feel welcome and safe and where they are treated with respect and dignity.

The Pride in Sport Index (PSI) – Benchmarking National & State Sporting Organisations’ LGBTI* - is an initiative of the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Human Rights Commission and a legacy of the Bingham Cup, Sydney. ACON’s Pride Inclusion programs team were commissioned to develop the Pride in Sport Index.

Submissions are now open for national and state sporting organisations to participate and complete the index survey that will allow these organisations to not only assess their own practice, but determine what constitutes good practice, along with the ability to benchmark their initiatives against an external measure and other sporting organisations.

The Pride in Sport Index is the first and only benchmarking instrument specifically designed to assess the inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) people within Australian sport and sporting organisations.

There is no cost associated with participating and for those who do, a full transcript and a copy of the results will be provided to benchmark your practices against. In addition to the full benchmarking instrument there are a number of awards for individual athletes, coaches, administrators and initiatives.

Sports can download and complete the survey from this link. Submissions close on Friday 24 March 2017.

The ASC commends those sports that have publically committed to completing the PSI this year, including the Australian Rugby Union, National Rugby League, Australian Football League, Football Federation of Australia, Cricket Australia and Water Polo Australia, and encourages many more to be part of this historic benchmarking process.
