The Corporate Division’s role is to build a contemporary and inventive Sport Australia that delivers unique value for Australian sport. It is focused on delivering Sport Australia’s strategic priority of a leaner and more efficient organisation, a strong workforce culture and improving the digital capability of the Australian sport sector.
The division plays a critical role to ensure the organisation has talented people with capabilities for our future. We position our facilities and sites for future success, invest in priorities that will make a difference, ensure that our digital capability underpins our operations and sector engagement, and our governance, processes and systems have been streamlined and adapted to enable us to get on with business.
Corporate
Luke McCann
Luke joins Sport Australia with a wealth of senior executive and corporate experience in the government and private sector.
Most recently Luke has been the Head of Finance at the Australian Federal Police and prior to this was a key driver of their enterprise transformation, encompassing both business and cultural reform. In addition to his knowledge and skills in corporate functions, he will bring to Sport Australia his strong business acumen and expertise in balancing the delivery of strategic business outcomes and a transformation agenda.

Finance
Deputy General Manager/Chief Financial Officer: Peter Dunlop
The Finance branch’s role is to drive strategic financial management across Sport Australia and foster the prudent management of financial risk. Specifically, the finance branch is responsible for: payment and receipt processing; taxation and legislative compliance; statutory reporting; treasury; management of Sport Australia capital and operating budgets with the Government financial framework; and ensuring a strong internal control framework is maintained around financial processes and financial systems.
Financial Strategy and Planning
Director: Lani Carrillo-Lagera
Focuses on providing strategic budget and financial advice and analysis including financial modelling, scenario planning, robust analysis and internal assurance reviews; assessing and making recommendations on the impact of changes to the Government funding frameworks on Sport Australia; and managing the review of pricing and spending proposals to provide quality assurance over financial information and independent advice to the Chief Financial Officer, and the Executive.
Financial Accounting
Director: Beth Sheargold
Ensures the overall integrity of all financial reporting, financial operations, financial systems and external compliance matters. It also manages and optimises Sport Australia’s financial management information systems, processes and related controls; and develops and maintains better practices and systems that contribute to the organisation's development and achievement of its strategic goals.
Management Accounting
Director: Lisa Rees
Ensures the integrity of Sport Australia’s internal and external budget allocations, capital allocations and financial position by providing strategic budgeting and financial reporting advice and robust analysis. Key areas of focus include: driving the annual corporate budgeting process to establish viable program operational and capital budgets; managing financial models for the Portfolio Budget Statements and intra-year budget updates; developing and maintaining an appropriate Internal Budgeting Framework, policies and procedures and drive efficiency in budgeting and forecasting across Sport Australia and managing Sport Australia’s Capital Management Plan and associated reporting requirements to the Department of Finance.
Grants Planning and Reporting
Director: Wanda Sipa
Supports the integrity of Sport Australia’s grant decision making process to organisations, the community and athletes who are best placed to deliver on strategic priorities. It provides evidence-based data; ensuring compliance with the Sport Australia Grant management Framework; and ensures there is an integrated approach to all grant programs.
Key programs include:
- Monitoring of NSO investment Sport Investment Agreements, monitoring of compliance and reporting
- Local Sport Champions program – provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitor aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships
- Women Leaders in Sport program – a joint program with the Office for Women, that aims to provide women with development opportunities to reach their leadership potential in the sports industry
- DAIS scheme provides an opportunity for athletes in Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games sports to receive a direct cash grant from the Australian Government. Please contact your respective national sporting organisation.
- Supports the Sporting Schools grants program

AIS Site Services
Deputy General Manager: Sue Minter
The AIS Site Services branch plays a key role in maintaining high quality facilities and specialised equipment, buildings, and office equipment in alignment with the strategic, capital and site strategies.
Key responsibilities of the branch include: managing corporate relationships with NSOs for the use of Sport Australia facilities in Australia; ensuring facilities and services are maintained and operated in accordance with relevant legislative requirements; leading collaboration with other areas of Sport Australia to ensure that the Executive and Board decisions on facilities and childcare are informed by high quality, rigorous analysis; and providing continued access to high quality sporting facilities by the Australian high performance system and Canberra community.
Facilities Services
Director: David Hodgson
Delivers programs for capital works, facility maintenance, capital equipment, facility operations, logistics, vehicle fleet services, security, horticulture, leases and facilities contract management services in accordance with Sport Australia’s legislative and policy requirements. It contributes to the strategic analysis of campus facilities, infrastructure and relevant life cycles for both maintenance and capital management.
Childcare
Manager: Lisa Syrette
Manages the day-to-day operations of the AIS Caretaker’s Cottage Childcare Centre for the use by staff and campus based NSOs. This includes ensuring the Centre provides high quality early childhood education and care to children in accordance with applicable national law, national regulations and the National Quality Standards for Early Education and Care.
People and Culture
Deputy General Manager: Alison Halpin
The People and Culture branch supports Sport Australia’s strategic business goals by delivering a diverse range of functions in engagement and culture; organisational development; and human resources. These include culture and change management, workforce planning, talent management, staff development, recruitment, employment relations, payroll and health and safety services.
Workplace Services
Director: Olivia Rankin
This section is responsible for managing the employee relations, payroll and work health and safety functions for the Sport Australia workforce. This includes providing advice on workplace practices and employment legislation to support appropriate case management, leading the process for developing and implementing Sport Australia’s Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, providing payroll and workforce reporting services.
Strategic Business Planning
Director: Martina Woodford
Supports Sport Australia business areas on workforce matters, ensuring effective delivery of both operational and strategic human resources support which meets client needs and progresses strategic objectives. A key focus is on managing and implementing effective, efficient and coordinated human resources systems and processes to meet current and future business challenges.
Employee Experience
Advisor: Mark Chin
Manages the development and implementation of workforce-centred initiatives, frameworks and other resources that deliver an enhanced employee experience for staff at Sport Australia. This includes developing and delivering learning and development, performance management, reward and recognition and culture programs.
Business Operations
Deputy General Manager: Geoff Howes
The Business Operations branch is responsible for driving efficient, effective and integrated technology and business services across Sport Australia. It plays a diverse role in ensuring that: enterprise decisions are informed by stakeholder involvement, information and data; decisions reflect the interests of our users and increase confidence within staff and the community; the organisation minimises duplication, waste, risk and is flexible to changing priorities.
It also works to ensure that Sport Australia achieves compliance with its legal responsibilities that staff have visibility and are clear on the strategic enterprise wide policies, and that systems are robust and support the diverse needs of our staff and stakeholders.
Legal
Corporate Counsel: Paul Barrett
Provides strategic legal, governance and business advice to Sport Australia divisions, including representing Sport Australia in dealings with external parties. It also provides assistance in relation to commercial contracts, intellectual property development, protection and commercialisation, corporate governance, probity, legislative compliance, dispute management, external investigations and inquiries.
ICT
Director: Sean O’Dowd
Delivers a range of strategic and advisory services relating to ICT to Sport Australia and the wider sport community through its internal capabilities. The section aims to deliver optimal effectiveness of the Sport Australia ICT environment to achieve continuous improvements in the quality, efficiency and value of ICT services across the organisation and external partners. It is responsible for maintaining existing systems, while providing direction in all digital and technology-related issues in support of Sport Australia’s Digital Transformation program; developing future growth; and positioning our service offering as a leader in the sport sector.
Governance and Business Improvement
Director: Renee O’Callaghan
Supports the internal governance of Sport Australia, managing and implementing the strategic and business planning framework including performance management, monitoring and reporting. It oversees the organisation’s governance framework, and ensures Sport Australia meets its governance, risk and compliance requirements, including risk management, internal audit, compliance, fraud, policy, public interest disclosure, information management and emergency response and business continuity requirements.
This section also manages the organisation’s records management framework, provides Board, Executive and Corporate support. A key focus is to lead the review and implementation of cross-enterprise business improvement with the intent to streamline, rationalise and make services more adaptable and user-centred.
Enterprise Projects and Sourcing
Director: Bik Ray
This section is responsible for the procurement and project management functions across Sport Australia. It provides high quality, solution focused procurement and project management advice and direction across the organisation to enhance procurement, contract management and project management practices.
