The Marketing, Customer Insights and Analytics Division is responsible for increasing the impact of Sport Australia through strong community connections and superior customer experience. The division’s mission is to inspire and enable Australia to be the world’s most active sporting nation.
This will be achieved through repositioning Sport Australia as the sector leader; promoting the success and stories of high performance athletes to inspire Australia; connecting with Australians to increase their physical activity; identifying new sources of revenue through partnerships and platforms; and improving decision making for Sport Australia and the sector through data and insights.
The division also directly supports the strategic priorities of the Australian Institute of Sport and Sport Business.
Marketing, Customer Insights and Analytics
Louise Eyres
Louise Eyres is a global marketing executive with a career spanning 25 years in transformative marketing roles across manufacturing, mining, financial services and now sport and health.
Ms Eyres is leading the establishment of the marketing function and capability at Sport Australia and the transformational strategy to shift Australians’ connection with sport and health.
Ms Eyres was previously Group General Manager of Marketing at ANZ having spent the past decade leading marketing in the Australian and Group Divisions. She was responsible for delivering the transformative group-wide marketing program to drive the ANZ Asia Pacific expansion and more recently the move to a digitally focused business.
Prior to ANZ, Ms Eyres held several global sales and marketing leadership roles with BHP Billiton including the development of the BHP Billiton global brand following the integration of BHP and Billiton plc.
She is a board member of the Deakin University MBA Advisory and former board member of the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA).
Digital Strategy and Insights
Deputy General Manager: Wing Cheung
The Digital Strategy and Insights Branch is responsible for increasing the digital maturity within Sport Australia and across the sport sector, and enabling decision making underpinned by reliable data and insights to get more Australians participating and excelling in sport. There are four sections within this branch:
Digital Experience
Director: Sarah Groube
Leads and develops great digital experiences for our customers through a user-centric approach.
Using human-centred service design principles we will design services that help Australians be more active and engaged in sport, help sporting organisations operate more effectively, and help our staff achieve the goals of Sport Australia. We will continue to grow and measure the digital capability within the organisation. By observing how users are engaging with Sport Australia and the sporting industry and analysing industry data, we will continually improve our services, ensuring the sustainable delivery of services to staff, sport and within the sector.
We want to make sure the digital experience is an enabler of physical activity, participation and high performance sport in Australia.
Digital Sector
Director: Paul Templeman
Leads and enables digital transformation for the Sports Sector through data, integration and platforms as envisaged in the Industry Digital Vision (November 2017) and the National Sport Plan (August 2018). The section will deliver programs that build the digital capability of sports, taking a human-centred ‘whole of sport’ approach and tracking the digital maturity of sports and their stakeholders. This will be achieved through delivering shared digital services and platforms that provide the foundation for sports to be able to deliver great digital experiences and that connect the sector. These experiences will be created by working with sport digital and technology partners and providers to create a vibrant sport digital and technology marketplace that makes a significant contribution to the Australian economy.
Insights
Director: Laurent Schmutz
The Insights Section will lead delivery of insights to the sport and physical activity sector, through data analysis, data visualisation and market research. Other main activities and responsibilities include: evaluating the sport and physical activity sector needs and develop a research agenda; investing in key sector-wide projects (including the AusPlay survey); working with sector partners to apply and activate research findings; and driving research alignment both internally at Sport Australia and with the sector at large.
Clearinghouse/National Sport Information Centre
Director: Gavin Reynolds
Works closely with its sector partners through the Clearinghouse for Sport strategy, to develop and provide access to a portfolio of quality-assured information and knowledge resources on sport and sport related topics (including an evidence-base) and will utilise and share these resources to support sport and government objectives.
The National Sport Information Centre (NSIC), located at the AIS Bruce campus in Canberra, maintains a comprehensive collection of sport and sport science literature in print and electronic formats, as well as unique digital media holdings of sports competition footage, images and results data. The NSIC maintains a strong focus on meeting the information needs of Australia’s leading high performance sport practitioners and provides 24/7 after-hours access to its facilities for national teams and support staff when visiting the AIS.
Brand Strategy and Experience
Director: Tracey Hutson
The Brand Strategy Branch will lead and influence the development, implementation, engagement and ongoing management of the Sport Australia brand portfolio. The purpose of this branch is to provide a framework, architecture, visual design system and usage guidelines for the Sport Australia portfolio of brands, optimising hierarchy, linkages and roles of brands within the portfolio in support of the business strategy.
The brand strategy will influence the total operation of the business to ensure consistent brand behaviour and experiences for the internal business and external market. The result of this will be an increase in awareness and connection to these brands, increased understanding and equity that can be leveraged to drive revenue.

High Performance and Participation Marketing
Deputy General Manager: Fiona Boughton
The marketing branch is focused on business to consumer and business to business (sport sector) strategies that align with participation, physical activity and high performance. This includes commercialisation of Sport Australia’s value proposition to connect with brands.
High Performance Marketing
Director: Laura Sidey
Plays a pivotal role in being the story teller, to increase the national pride we feel when we see Australian athletes succeed on the international stage. In addition, the marketing section has a fundamental role in sharing with the Australian sport sector how the AIS leads and enables a united high performance system in order to support Australian athletes and teams to achieve podium success.
All marketing initiatives support the AIS to achieve its strategic priorities across the areas of: Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement, Innovation and Applied Technology, Sport Strategy and Investment, Performance Networks and Partnerships and AIS Operations.
Participation Marketing
Director: Tony Dusan
Plays a key role in connecting Australians with their physical activity. A key focus is activating community interest in sport and physical activity through nationally coordinated campaigns. The team support the marketing needs of the Sport Business division in achieving their aims across: Physical Literacy, Sporting Schools, Participation Pathways and Advisory, Sport Advisory, and Integrity.
The Participation Marketing team is also responsible for the Move It AUS campaign targeting adults with children aged 0-18 years.
Strategic Partnerships
Assistant Director: Simon Joyce
The Sport Australia sponsorship division partners with brands to help connect Australians with participation, physical activity and high performance sport. Partners can leverage the Sport Australia and AIS intellectual property, including varied platforms, to amplify their messaging across unique AIS sports science testing through to encouraging mainstream Australian sport/exercise participation. Partnership opportunities also exist within the popular community sector across the Sporting Schools program and other community/high performance grant initiatives. Current partnerships span over sustained periods of time of up to 30 years. Sport Australia welcomes new conversations with relevant organisations that share the same organisational values.

Media and Communications
Director: Chris Wilson
The Media and Communications Section is responsible for leading external and internal communications for the organisation to establish our reputation and position as the leading national voice for sport and physical activity in Australia. We aim to tell the positive stories of sport and physical activity to inspire an active Australia. The team comprises media, including digital, video production, photography, graphic design and internal communications. Facilities include a small production studio for the creation of multi-media content and photographic portraits.

Site Commercial
Director: Sam Ceravolo
The AIS campus in Canberra is Australia's premier elite sports precinct. This section coordinates, optimises and services access to the AIS’ high quality accommodation, venues and facilities for the high performance sport sector, sporting organisations, school groups, tourists, general public and other commercial clients. From sports camps, tours, conferences, functions, events, concerts, retail, aquatic & fitness programs and school holiday programs – athletes and visitors are able to experience the AIS.
Through the AIS campus, not only are we powering the performance of our athletes, but we are also able to promote the success and inspirational stories of our athletes, the sport science that supports them as well as encourage greater physical activity through engagement with our many visitors. The campus is also a special place as a valued cultural, community and entertainment hub for the Canberra region.
The team oversees the AIS Aquatic Centre; Events and Sports Camps, Residences, and the AIS shop.
