The AIS is on the lookout for athlete ambassadors who are ready to inspire the next generation of Australian problem solvers.

The AIS Problem Solving Program sees elite athletes visit primary schools to guide them through a sporting challenge.
Athletes who are chosen as ambassadors will present students with a sporting challenge focused on health and wellbeing for the students to resolve- and witness the students’ work come together.
Like on the playing field, there can be many solutions to the problem- which is part of the joys of the program, according to 2024 ambassador, Carly Salmon.
“I loved how there was such a diverse range of solutions to the same problem we presented to school students,” the Para Matildas Co-captain and Australian Para Volleyball quad player said.
While the AIS ambassadors act as mentors to the students, Salmon said the inspiration also works in reverse.
“These creative, considerate and compassionate young people make me excited to witness the powerful growth and development of sporting environments in the future!”
Being part of this program is a rewarding experience for current and retired athletes- as Olympic canoe sprinter Yale Steinepreis attests.
“I am where I am today because of the community that supported me, so this program was a meaningful way for me to give back in a targeted and practical way,” Steinepreis said.
“It’s also important because it shows kids that there’s no single right or wrong answer, there are limitless ways to find solutions, and that each and every one of them has a unique skill they can bring to solving a problem.”
Athletes who embrace out-of-the-box thinking and are passionate about creating inclusive and sustainable sporting communities are encouraged to apply.
Ambassadors need to be available to deliver two sessions either in-person or online. Teachers and students solve the problem between visits, supported by a guide and extensive resources from the AIS.
This free program targets grades 4-6 and is offered to all Australian primary schools.
It is proudly supported by HART Sport, Australia’s leading supplier of sporting equipment and training aids. The all-inclusive nature of the AIS Problem Solvers Program goes hand in hand with HART Sports’ mission of getting people active, no matter their age, circumstance or ability.
