Sporting Schools is a $280 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children's participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities.
Sporting Schools programs are provided free to children and their families to help students build the confidence and capability to be active for life.
To help achieve this, Sport Australia has partnered with more than 35 national sporting organisations (NSOs). There is a program for primary schools, and a targeted program for Year 7 and 8 students in secondary schools.
Since Sporting Schools started in 2015, more than 8,000 schools have received funding. This has provided more than eight million participant opportunities to get students active, engaged and having fun while sampling a variety of different sports.
"Sporting Schools funding has made a HUGE impact on our school. We are able to offer a variety sports to students with disabilities that we may not otherwise have been able to offer." - Franklin Primary School, TAS.
"The level of fitness, team building and increased confidence through experiencing a variety of sports has been incredible for our students." - Spring Hill Public School, NSW.
