Applications open for 2023 WLIS workshops

18 January 2023

Applications are open for the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) workshops.

Women who work or volunteer in sport and are looking to develop or refresh their leadership skills are encouraged to apply for the free leadership workshop program.

Hosted by leading facilitator Sue Cormack, the workshops run over seven weeks and cover topics such as working in and with teams and courage in leadership.

The program provides women from all levels of sport with valuable professional development and helps them build their leadership skills.

Tammy Johnson from Gymnastics Australia attended the 2022 workshops.

“This workshop has given me so much insight into what leadership is. I have gone from thinking ‘this is something I am not sure I am capable of doing’ to being inspired by the idea that I can become a great leader. Thank you for helping me see my potential.”

Former high performance manager for AFLW club the Freemantle Dockers now research assistant at the Australian National University Kate Starre, completed the workshops in 2021.

“I can’t tell you how much the workshop subtlety changed my management style,” Kate said, who is now working on a gender inclusion in sport project.

“The last year has been the first year I have felt like I could really, truly have an impact in the way I have envisioned but never been capable.”

The workshops will run from 17 April to 4 June and 19 June to 6 August with a range of dates and times available.

Participants also receive exclusive access to professional development masterclasses covering topics such as public speaking, governance and leadership and coaching and mentoring.

Applications close on 3 February.
