ASC congratulates Dylan Alcott on being named 2022 Australian of the Year

25 January 2022

The Australian Sports Commission congratulates Dylan Alcott on being named the 2022 Australian of the Year.

The tennis star was tonight recognised for his outstanding contribution to the nation which saw the 31-year-old win the Golden Slam as well as advocating strongly for people with a disability.

ASC Chair Josephine Sukkar AM said she was delighted to see Mr Alcott recognised.

“Dylan embodies everything that’s great about sport and he’s a role model for millions of Australians,” Ms Sukkar said.

“This honour isn’t just recognition for his incredible year on the court, but what he’s achieved away from tennis.

“Ensuring sport is inclusive and accessible for all is central to everything the Australian Sports Commission does and Dylan is a wonderful advocate for this.

With one in five Australians having some form of disability, Ms Sukkar said that we all have a role to play to make sure no one is left on the sidelines.

“The Australian Sports Commission is proud to have supported and partnered with Dylan on a number of initiatives over the years and we look forward to see what he achieves next as Australian of the Year.”

“I’d also like to congratulate all of this year’s finalists, especially Patty Mills who represented Australia so well at the Tokyo Olympics and continues to inspire the next generation as a proud Indigenous person.”
