AIS thanks Louise Burke for immeasurable impact over three decades

14 June 2020

Chief of Nutrition Strategy Louise Burke OAM has been with the AIS for over three decades, and has had an immeasurable impact on the organisation, and on Australian sport. Appointed as Head of Sports Nutrition in 1990, Louise initially oversaw individual and team nutrition counselling, provided individual advice to AIS & Australian national teams, created the AIS Dining Hall menus and developed educational resources for athletes around the country.

As author/co-author of over 250 peer-reviewed articles, Louise’s leading-edge research is recognised in Australia and around the world.  She was founding member of the Executive of Sports Dietitians Australia and was Team Dietitian for the five consecutive Australian Olympic teams, from 1996 to 2012.

In 2000, Louise led the development of the AIS Sports Supplements Program which now underpins the AIS Supplement Framework. Her work in Project Supernova has produced a unique combination of high level research and training environments to enable athletes to enhance performance. In 2018, as part of the AIS restructure, Louise was appointed to her current role.

Supernova has been co-funded by the AIS and Australian Catholic University, where Louise continues her role as chair in sports nutrition at the Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research. We are exploring opportunities for further collaboration with Louise in her role at ACU to ensure Australian high performance sport continues.
