08 March 2022

Women from across 12 sports including Louise Savage (Athletics), Miriam Fox–Jerusalmi (Paddle), Lynne Munro (Cycling), Carrie Graf (Basketball) and Rae Dower (Football) came together in Sydney today to share their experiences as high performance coaches.

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, today’s workshop was part of the Women in High Performance Coaching (WiHPC) Project, that engages directly with female coaches and gives them a voice on improving the representation and experiences of women in coaching. Two more workshops will be held in April.

AIS Acting CEO Matti Clements said it was vital to hear directly from women coaches to understand and learn from their experiences.

“The workshops are an important step to help understand the incentives, motivations and barriers women encounter in Australia’s high performance coaching landscape so that we can address these issues in the future,” said Clements.

“We thank everyone involved for sharing their expertise and insights to help inform strategies and initiatives around women in high performance sport.”
