Sport Australia knows this is a tough time for all Australians. We also believe whole-heartedly that when we get through this challenging period, sport will play a prominent role in lifting the nation’s energy and spirits again.
Right now our energies are focused on supporting sport as much as possible. But COVID-19 has changed the world at the moment, including for many of our grant recipients.
If this is the case, we want to connect with you to determine how we might best support you.
Each year, funded by the Australian Government, Sport Australia and the AIS provide some 25,000 grants, supporting sport at every level.
Our Sporting Schools program gives young children the chance to experience the fun of sport for free, while our Move IT AUS Better Ageing grants program supports older Australians to maintain physical and mental wellbeing.
Our grants fuel aspirations. Our Local Sporting Champions program supports 9,000 children a year to reach for their sporting dreams, while our Women Leaders in Sport program enhances the opportunity for so many women to progress their professional development in all roles across sport.
For those grants recipients unaffected, we encourage you to carry on with your programs and projects that help to advance Australian sport.
However, we understand that many of our participation-based grants programs may require modifications now, so we want to discuss innovative ideas with you.
There will be grants where objectives cannot practically be met right now. Events have been or will be cancelled. Project milestones may require postponement to a more opportune time.
We understand these challenges, and we need to know your story to see what can be done or how your plans may change.
The situation is different for every grant program and every recipient, so please discuss your future plans with your point of contact within Sport Australia. Check here for the best contact points for the grants program you’re involved with. You can also email questions to funding@ausport.gov.au.
Stay safe and stay in touch. Our priority remains to support sport as best we can.
