Athletics is a foundation sport which gives children the fundamental skills of running, jumping and throwing that are transferable across all sports.
Athletics Australia’s Sporting Schools programs, Kids’ Athletics, Run Active, and Novo Athletics, are an introduction to team-based activities in an age appropriate format.
The focus of these programs is on skill development to build a generation of active, healthy, sport loving children while most importantly having fun.
“Our ambition is to excite, bring in team ethics and provide all the physical literacies you need going through life in athletics and in all other sports.”
World Athletics President
Kids' Athletics
Kids’ Athletics is a highly engaging participation based program which focuses on the development of running, jumping and throwing through fun and engaging activities.
The program can be delivered in three skill levels:
- Beginner (Foundation - Grade 2)
- Intermediate (Grade 3 - 4)
- Advanced (Grade 5 - 6)
The Kids’ Athletics Program is fully aligned with all relevant school curriculum competencies.
The delivery of the product can be modified by the number of sessions willing to be delivered internally (teacher) or externally (Athletics Australia sourced coach).
Run Active
Athletics Australia's Run Active is a fun, games-based progressive run program for primary and secondary students. This 4 to 8 week program consists of a range of age and developmentally appropriate activities that promote enjoyment of physical activity, development of physical literacy, and provides a basis for an active lifestyle.
The delivery of the product can be modified by the number of sessions (minimum 4), and implemented either internally (teacher delivered program including accreditation course and coaching manual), or externally (Athletics Australia sourced coach).
Kids’ Athletics in partnership with Special Olympics Australia
Kids’ Athletics in partnership with Special Olympics Australia (Suitable for students with intellectual disability or autism) is an adapted version of the Kids’ Athletics program, catering for students with intellectual disabilities and autism. It has been designed by Athletics Australia in partnership with Special Olympics Australia for delivery in special education environments. Coaches are purposefully trained and provided with additional resources to deliver inclusive programs and to adapt activities to suit the needs of participating students.
Novo Athletics
The Novo Athletics (formerly Active Aths) program is designed to develop competence and capability in students, empowering them to confidently engage in sport and a healthy lifestyle.
The program engages all students in team-based activities that use a variety of basic athletics movements such as run, jump and throw. The focus is on fun, fitness and increased competence rather than gaining sport specific skills.
The delivery of the product can be modified by the number of sessions willing to be delivered internally (teacher) or externally (Athletics Australia sourced coach).
The Novo Athletics program is only available for Year 7 and Year 8 students.
With the support of Deaf Sports Australia, we can also facilitate an Active Deaf Kids program through Sporting Schools. To book, simply outline in the comments that you would like an Active Deaf Kids program.
