Through the AFL Sporting Schools program, we aim to introduce students to Australian football through fun, engaging and challenging games and activities that are suited and adapted for a range of age groups and skill levels. Students will also learn about the pathway programs available such as NAB AFL Auskick, School football and Junior football.

Coach-delivered programs
This Australian football incursion is delivered by our trained AFL staff who have undertaken safeguarding children training and have relevant State or Territory Working with Children Checks. The programming has a focus on practicing the core skills of the game as well as having lots of fun along the way.
Cost for 4-week program for Primary or Secondary students is $400 per class (class = 30 students).
In conjunction with the AFL’s commitment to embracing diversity and ensuring that our sport is welcoming and safe for everyone, our Sporting Schools program offerings can be adapted to cater for students with additional support needs.
Teacher-led programs
The teacher-led program provides teachers with resources that include best practice, evidence-based pedagogy and a range of assessment tools to run the program, as well as optional assistance from the AFL to help support teachers to successfully deliver an AFL program in their school.
Cost is based on a bespoke package designed by the school and may include – AFL staff member attendance at your first or last session (where possible), purchase of equipment, or funding to support teacher relief to attend teacher PD days or online sessions.
NAB AFL Auskick
Bring the excitement of NAB AFL Auskick to your school! This program centres around game-based activities that your students will love, with learning disguised as playing.
The program is delivered by AFL staff and designed for primary school-aged students in Years P-2.
Cost: based on $55 per student (max. number of students determined by grant funding received)
Program additions: Each student will receive an Auskick footy
Timing: Only available as a before or after school program
School requirements: Parents must register students on Play HQ for the program, and a teacher must remain onsite to supervise during the program.

NAB AFL Superkick
Have us run NAB AFL Superkick at your school! This program will see students new learn ways to play through skill-based activities, with an increased emphasis on playing games.
The program is delivered by AFL staff and designed for primary school-aged students in Years 3-6.
Cost: based on $55 per student (max. number of students determined by grant funding received)
Program additions: Each student will receive a Superkick footy
Timing: Only available as a before or after school program
School requirements: Parents must register students on Play HQ for the program, and a teacher must remain onsite to supervise during the program.

AFL Nines
Get involved with AFL Nines at your school! This program is centred around experiencing a fun and tackle-free version of the game, played on a smaller field with 9 players per team.
The program is delivered by AFL staff and designed for secondary school-aged students in Years 7-8.
Cost: based on $55 per student (max. number of students determined by grant funding received)
Program additions: Each student will receive an AFL Nines footy
Timing: Only available as a before or after school program
School requirements: Parents must register students on Play HQ for the program, and a teacher must remain onsite to supervise during the program.

All Coach-delivered programs are facilitated by AFL staff who bring all required equipment to run the program.
All Teacher-led programs can be supported by equipment purchased via our AFL Schools Shop. Your AFL contact will chat to you about your equipment needs and facilitate delivery of required equipment.

Teachers
To deliver Australian Football as a teacher, you need to meet the requirements below:
- Hold a valid state and/or territory teacher registration
- Be employed at the school
- Confirm adequacy of insurance
- Current AFL Foundation Coaching
- Approved by your local AFL Development Manager
Teachers can deliver programs via our teacher-led program and resources. For additional support, teacher may elect to complete the online training modules.
Coaches
To deliver athletics as a coach, you need to meet the below requirements:
- Registered in OfficialsHQ as a coach and connected to a provider, SSO or NSO
- Be aged 16 years or over
- Hold a current Working with Children Check (paid check) or relevant exemption
- Confirm adequacy of insurance
- Agree to Coach terms and conditions
- Current AFL Foundation Coaching
Coaches are all employed by the AFL and have undertaken safeguarding children training and have relevant State or Territory Working with Children Checks.
Coaching Providers
To deliver athletics as a provider organisation, you need to meet the below requirements:
- Registered as a provider in OfficialsHQ
- Hold a valid ABN or declare ABN exempt
- Confirm adequacy of insurance
- Agree to Provider Guidelines and Provider organisation terms and conditions
- Meet safety assessment (as determined by the NSO)
NOTE: All coaches that deliver under any provider must be registered and meet coach registration minimum requirements.

Teacher Professional Learning – Our professional learning sessions provides theory and practical application of AFL programming. Our approach gives teachers and those studying to be teachers the opportunity to learn about the theories that underpin effective teaching in HPE whilst learning about the relevant skills and game-sense approaches.
