Basketball

Basketball Australia introduces students to basketball in Sporting Schools with two nationally accredited programs including Ford Aussie Hoops, the official introductory program for primary school students, and 3X3 basketball, designed with secondary school students in mind.

Primary School Program

Adapted for the school setting, Ford Aussie Hoops introduces students to basketball with a nationally accredited coaching curriculum and a program consisting of warm-up games, skill activities and modified games all delivered by accredited coaches.

Basketball Australia has assembled a network of experienced, passionate local coaches from clubs and associations who will deliver Ford Aussie Hoops programs in your school. Programs include:

  • A fun and engaging basketball program, delivered by accredited coaches
  • Offers to students for continued basketball involvement at a local club
  • Nationally endorsed program that is linked to curriculum outcomes

With the support of Deaf Sports Australia, Basketball Australia can also facilitate an Active Deaf Kids program through our Aussie Hoops package for Sporting Schools. To book, simply outline in the comments that you would like an Active Deaf Kids program.

Secondary School Program

3X3 basketball is considered the number one urban team sport and is simple enough to be played anywhere by anybody.

In this program, secondary school students in years 7 and 8 can learn basketball through a set of engaging ‘game sense’ activities which culminate in a mini-tournament.

The program also offers multiple avenues for participation by empowering students to choose roles including player, referee, coach and scorer/statistician.

Note: Both Ford Aussie Hoops and 3x3 programs can be delivered in wheelchairs in conjunction with Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association in QLD and Wheelchair Sports NSW in NSW. Schools can apply for basketball within their grant application, and if successful, can book a Basketball Australia package and request wheelchair basketball and the provider in the Additional Information field.
