Both primary and secondary schools can select karate from Term 3, 2024 with karate the first and only martial art sport currently available for secondary schools.
Karate Australia’s newly developed programs focus on personal well-being and confidence by developing the skills, knowledge and understanding required to enable students to cope with the demands of an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.
KarateKids is on offer for primary schools, with the KarateTeens program available for students in Years 7 and 8 in secondary schools.
KarateKids

KarateTeens
KarateTeens programs centre on empowering confidence by developing the skills, knowledge and understanding of the sport. The programs focus on anti-bullying techniques and introduce students to the ever-growing number of opportunities for further involvement in our sport.
Teachers
Teacher delivery is not an option for karate at this stage.
Coaches
To deliver karate as a coach, you need to meet the below requirements -
- Registered in OfficialsHQ as a coach and connected to a provider, SSO or NSO
- Be aged 16 years or over
- Hold a current Working with Children Check (paid check) or relevant exemption
- Confirm adequacy of insurance
- Agree to Coach terms and conditions
To deliver on behalf of Karate Australia, coaches need to:
- Be connected to an endorsed provider in OfficialsHQ
Hold a current Karate Instructor Accreditations (KIA) - Bronze
Providers
To deliver karate as a provider organisation, you need to meet the below requirements -
- Registered as a provider in OfficialsHQ
- Hold a valid ABN or declare ABN exempt
- Confirm adequacy of insurance
- Agree to Provider Guidelines and Provider organisation terms and conditions
- Meet safety assessment (as determined by the NSO)
To be an endorsed provider for karate and deliver on behalf of Karate Australia, providers must also meet the requirements below:
- Be a financial member of Karate Australia
NOTE: All coaches that deliver under any provider must be registered and meet coach registration minimum requirements.
