Paddle Australia’s Paddle Oz programs are designed to provide young people with an enjoyable introduction to paddling that encourages lifelong participation. Experiential learning through participation in games and activities is the focus of the Paddle Discovery and Paddle Ball programs offered through Sporting Schools.
The games and activities allow the participants to develop the essential skills and safety knowledge that underpin all future paddling pathways. Gaining knowledge of the different forms of paddling, making links to local clubs and understanding further development pathways are important features of the programs.
Secondary School Program
The Paddle Discovery program is designed for participants to learn the basic skills of paddling in an experiential manner through a range of games and activities. Basic instruction may be required to consolidate learning from the games and activities. Very basic craft handling and safety skills should be achieved by the completion of this program. The program can be delivered in a swimming pool.
The Paddle Ball program is designed for participants to learn the basic skills of paddling in an experiential manner to enable them to develop skills and knowledge to participate in the team sport of Paddle Ball (a modified version of canoe polo). Very basic craft handling, safety skills and rules of the game should be achieved by the completion of this level.
Teachers
Teachers can deliver Paddle Discovery or Paddle Ball in Sporting Schools by either holding one of the below Paddle Australia qualifications:
- Supervisor
- Guide
- Instructor
OR by completing the online Sporting Schools Supervisor qualification. Details and registration for this program can be found here.
Costs: $185, includes 3 years registration
Coaches
To become a coach and deliver Paddle Discovery or Paddle Ball in Sporting Schools please ensure you are working towards the following requirements:
- Be aged 18 years or over
- Hold a current Working with Children Check
- Confirm adequacy of insurance
- Hold a current Paddle Australia Supervisor, Guide or Instructor award
Coaching Providers
Sporting Schools is an Australia-wide program in partnership with over 30 national sporting organisations (NSO), of which Paddle Australia is one.
All Paddle Australia Sporting Schools programs are facilitated through Paddle Australia providers.
