Water Polo Australia has created three fun and safe modified water polo packages to learn the basics of water polo in the school setting for students across Australia – regardless of their access to a pool!
The FlippaSchools program is aimed at improving children’s swimming ability and water confidence in a fun team sport environment. FlippaSchools packages include lesson plans that can be delivered on land or in the pool.
FlippaSchools
FlippaSchools teaches students essential life skills such as water safety, swimming and treading water, hand-eye coordination, cooperation, communication and confidence, through familiar group games and activity for juniors.
There are three FlippaSchools packages available through Sporting Schools:
- Try Polo – Five x 60 minute sessions that are 100% land based activities relating to water polo, delivered on school grounds (coach or teacher delivery options).
- Dip into Polo – Five x 60 minute sessions comprised of three land based sessions at school followed by two sessions at the pool. Note: pool sessions often delivered as a double 120 minute session - so only one trip to the pool if needed.
- Play Polo – Five x 60 minute sessions introducing the skills of water polo, 100% in the pool.
Supervision
All water based FlippaSchools packages have a supervision ratio of 1 coach to 12 students.
The head coach must hold a current WPA Coach accreditation (minimum level Community Coach). It is recommended that pending the student swimming ability level, additional supervisors are utilised.
Supervisors working under a Water Polo Australia accredited coach must hold evidence of one of the following:
- Water Polo Australia National coach accreditation; or
- Current AUSTSWIM, evidence of a valid insurance policy and WWCC details; or
- Swimming Australia qualification, evidence of a valid insurance policy and WWCC details.
Land based programs (Try Polo) have a supervision ratio of 1 coach or teacher to 36 students.
