Hit up the Sport Volunteer Resource Hub

There are nearly 3 million sport volunteers in Australia and the Sport Volunteer Resource Hub offers a helping hand in the lead up to the summer sport season.

The Sport Volunteer Resource Hub provides free access to resources and practical tools to help recruit, retain, and train volunteers.

The online hub, launched in July, provides free access to resources and practical tools to help recruit, retain, and train volunteers. Sporting organisations, clubs, managers, participants, volunteers, and everyone in between are encouraged to Hit up the Hub to support their volunteers.

The hub was co-designed with the sporting community to ensure it contains the right resources, in the right formats for clubs and organisations. VicSport was one of the contributing parties and CEO Lisa Hasker was most excited to see the hub reduce the duplication of effort and resources, which have impacted sport in the past.

“Here's a chance to come to one place and get all the important resources and all the things people need to help them with sport volunteering,” she said. “It's a huge breakthrough.”

Surf Life Saving Australia has more than 315 clubs and a huge volunteering base spread across the country. CEO Adam Weir was keen to see what sort of impact the hub would have on their member base.

“For clubs, for grassroots, the impact it can have on their volunteering I think is going to be significant,” he said.

“As we start to build out the tools and the plans, it is going to make it easier for clubs to engage more volunteers and that’s really exciting.”

The hub is a key deliverable of the Sport Volunteer Coalition Action Plan, which seeks to enable more Australians to volunteer in sport and lead the sector to enhance the sport volunteering experience.
