Statement from the AIS

23 March 2020

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) recognises and supports the directive to Australian sports and athletes by the Australian Olympic Committee to prepare for a Tokyo Olympic Games in the northern summer of 2021, following the International Olympic Committee’s announcement of a potential postponement of this year’s Games.

We understand this is a disappointing situation for the entire high performance sporting community in Australia, however it is an appropriate response that provides athletes and the sector more broadly, with some level of certainty in these challenging times.

There are a number of considerations to work through, however the immediate focus of the AIS is supporting the wellbeing of our high performance sporting community during this time.

The AIS Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement team offers a range of services to support athletes, coaches and staff and is working to enhance its offerings in recognition of these circumstances.

More information on these services can be found here
